Apart from Memorial Day, this Monday will also be "Quit Facebook Day". Users angry over the site's complicated privacy settings vowed to deactivate their Facebook accounts on May 31 and over 23,000 users committed to do so. Recently Facebook started making decisions on how to manage our information which caused many waves. Even politicians were complaining about this an many requested investigations. Remember a few months ago when Facebook turned down the privacy settings on our accounts which left our pictures and additional information open to any other user? After doing so, Facebook left if up to us to go back in and change the settings on our accounts which would make this information private again. I never understood why Facebook did this and in my opinion, it was because they knew the majority of users would have difficulty navigating through their confusing privacy settings, and many of us, even seasoned computer experts could not figure this out. Facebook's ultimate goal is to have every user share everything about themselves with each other or with other companies, but they fail to understand that we want to decide what is being shared. Whether it's something as harmless as "Liking" apple pie or as private as "Liking" Two Girls One Cup In 3D, it should be up to the users to decide who can view this information. Even if the information is public, do not decide to share it with third parties without seeking our opinion, and this us the key issue, Facebook believes that they help us stay connected by alerting me when the next Donkey Show will come to my town, little do they know that I only like the videos and would go to a live show in person. What am I a freak? I will stick with Facebook until the next hottest social network comes along, but I will just be a little more conscious about the info I decide to share.
